Newsletter - December 2015

December is here and its beginning to look a lot like Christmas to quote from a song. That must mean that November is behind us along with the turkey and desserts. We had a pretty busy month around here. The movie was good even though we had no electricity when we started and I’m sorry that you might of missed it thinking that would shut us down, but as the saying goes “the show must go on.” We sent off 115 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child but if you missed out on that we are still accepting donations for the shipping at $7 per box (see Mrs. Judy). Thanks again to all those who helped in any way with those boxes. The youth was busy also with a lock-in, bake sale and the Youth Evangelism conference. If you know someone in the jr high or high school let them know that there is something for them at church to include a praise and worship time for everyone beginning at 9:30 am Sunday mornings. We then have Sunday school for everyone and I hope that you will come and join us as we learn more about Jesus through His Word and bring a friend with you.
Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • 13 Dec 6 pm Christmas play (come support the children who are in the play) snacks to follow.
  • 25 Dec we celebrate our Savior’s birthday. He is the reason for the season.
Now for the pastor‘s bite: December is all about Christmas in my book. I just think that it’s funny that Thanksgiving, were we thank God for all his Blessings is follow by what the world says is a time of giving. Yes that is how we celebrate Christmas by giving, now some people see it as a time of receiving and the stores see it as a time to make a profit but some refuse to put Christmas on their sales and by no means will they tell you Merry Christmas. Why do we give gifts anyway? Well Mathew chapter 2 kind of tells us when it is talking about the “three wise men” in vs. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. (NIV) See the wise men gave Jesus gifts after His birth and that began the tradition of giving gifts. We do this to remember those first gifts that were giving to Jesus our Savior. Now that is the big thing here that Jesus is our savior because God first gave us His son for our sins (wrong things in our life) so that we could live with Him for ever! So as you go out and about to get those gifts remember what they are representing and who has already given you the best gift of eternal life. Have you accept that gift from Him? It’s just like any other gift, for it to be yours you have to take possession of it or it’s not yours. I pray that everyone of you have taken possession of this gift by asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins and asking Him to come into your life, if not, this would be the best time to do it and I would love to help you do that. So this Christmas can you give some of you time back to God by coming to worship Him on Sundays, and I‘ll save you a seat. Don’t forget tell everyone Merry Christmas as you are out shopping.

Newsletter - November 2015

October has come to a close and 2016 will be here before you know it. The Fall Festival was a good time as the children played games and ate snacks and thank all of you fro bringing your children and to those that helped out. The shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child are coming together as we get them ready to drop off before the 22nd of Nov. We have around 100 and thanks to everyone who has helped with those and if you have not been able to, we still have to pay for the shipping at $7 per box, so we would gladly accept any donation to go toward the shipping. Let me ask you to bring a friend with you as you come and join us as we approach the Thanksgiving season and learn more about Jesus through His Word.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • 6 Nov 6:30pm Movie night “Do You Believe” movie starts at 7pm come join us for popcorn, snacks, and the movie
  • 13 Nov late breaking news Youth lock-in starts at 5pm anyone left after 10 pm stays for the night. See Ms Jenny for more info
  • 16-22 Nov Operation Christmas Child shoe box pick up (the youth have put together about 100 boxes and we do need the shipping on these boxes which is $7 ea)
  • 23-24 Nov Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) in Lafayette all youth see Ms Jenny for more information.
Now for the pastor ‘s bite: November brings with it Thanksgiving and what thoughts does this bring with it? How about turkey and football? Yes plenty of people will observe both of those but what about you? Just think about the name THANKS and GIVING! Who or what are you thankful to or for? As each day pass by I am more and more thankful for what God has and is doing for me and this community. I look forward to spending time in His word each day so that God can talk to me through it and hopefully to you through me at times. In 2 Samuel 7 as David begins a thanksgiving prayer to God vs.18 Then King David went in, sat in the Lord’s presence, and said, Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far? (HCSB) Yes this is how I feel when I look back over the year and see the Blessings from Heaven and realize that God has brought me so far. Not just this year but in my life and yes there were some bad times but I try to look at Gods blessing surrounding those times. So I ask you to come and join us this month as we begin thanking God during this time of the year, and I‘ll save you a seat on Sunday.

Newsletter - October 2015

Fall is here and September is in the books as they say. We had a good turn out for the back to school bash with a water slide, snacks, and games. Thanks to all that helped and to those that joined in the fun. The youth had a great day at see-you-at-the-pole youth rally in Eunice. They started the day shopping for items to go into the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, more to come on that. Hope that you will come and join the youth for Praise and Worship on Sunday mornings followed by Sunday school and then worship and while you are at it bring a friend.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • 23 Oct 6pm-8:30pm Fall Festival for the children come and join us
  • 16-22 Nov Operation Christmas Child shoe box pick up (the youth have put together about 100 boxes and we do need the shipping on these boxes which is $7 ea)
  • 23-24 Nov Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) in Lafayette all youth see Ms Jenny for more information.

Now for the pastor ‘s bite: October is a time of the year that brings in the “Holidays” and times for family and friends with suppers and backyard fires. Some of the things that we think about a lot as we enjoy these times is safety. It’s food safety maybe hunting safety and even fire safety as we don’t want to burn our houses down, but what about the safety of your heart and mind for eternity. In Proverbs 4 it is written 11- I am teaching you the way of wisdom; I am guiding you on straight paths. 12- When you walk, your steps will not be hindered; when you run, you will not stumble. 13- Hold on to instruction; don’t let go. Guard it, for it is your life. (HCSB). So let me encourage you to hold on to God’s instructions for your life and not just holding on to them but reading and applying His word to your life. We all have something more that we could learn from His word and in the process of that learning we can help guard our heart and mind from evil. with that being said I hope that you will come and join us on Sunday’s as we search The Bible for God’s truth and wisdom for our life, and I‘ll save you a seat on Sunday.

Newsletter - September 2015

Wow! Did August fly by? We had a great month here at the church and what a way to finish out the month with homecoming. We had a full church on Sunday as we heard from 2 former members speak about what they and their families are doing on the mission fields (Uganda and Nepal) for Christ. It was great to see some faces that we haven’t seen in awhile as we celebrated 170 years of church fellowship. I would like to take this time to thank everyone that took part with cooking or just helping out. We start a new Sunday school book this Sunday so it would be a great time to come and join us for Sunday school and while you are at it stick around for worship since you will be here anyways and learn more about God’s Word. Some of you might not have heard that the youth meet at 9:30 on Sunday morning for a Praise and Worship time and they invite everyone to join them as they Praise God with some more upbeat music.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:

-5 Sept 3pm-6pm Back to school bash for all school aged children
-19 Sept. See you at the pole youth prayer rally at ABC(Acadian Baptist Center) in Eunice, LA
-25 Sept 6:30pm with movie starting at 7pm movie night (Do You Believe) popcorn and snacks all are invited and bring a neighbor.

Now for the pastor ‘s bite: September ushers in Fall, as the temperature starts to cool off and the leaves start to fall and we all start getting busy. School is in full swing and I know the woods are starting to call many of you as hunting season begins. With that being said how about hunting for something new in God’s word. Proverbs 2:1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 listening closely to wisdom and directing your heart to understanding; 3 furthermore, if you call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, 4 if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. HCSB. Now if you are hunting for something true and real this “hidden treasure” in God’s word, that gives you understanding of the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God is something worth hunting for. So let’s not get to busy this fall that we can’t do some hunting in God’s Word. Come and share some of this hunting trip with us on Sunday’s where we will tell you the truth of where the best hunting spot is and not try to keep it to ourselves like some hunting spots and I‘ll save you a seat on Sunday.
