Newsletter - June 2016

Summer is upon us with schools getting out and Vacation Bible Schools all around. Speaking of VBS the youth had theirs at the end of May and it looked like they had fun with 9 different youth attending. Thanks to all who helped out with food and a special thanks to Ms Jenny and Mr. Jeremy for the time that they put into that weekend and all the effort that they put into the youth. This would be a great time for you to come and join us for Sunday school as the adults start a new book and bring a friend with you as we study God’s Holy Word and sing Praises in Jesus’ name.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:

  • June 19th Fathers Day
  • June 27-1 July 5:30pm-8:30pm Vacation Bible School for school children. All are welcome. Invite a friend and neighbor.

Now for the pastor‘s bite: June seems to officially say summer is here and the next question that you might hear is “What are we going to do?” As you make your plans let’s not forget to keep Christ in mind and church for that matter. Jesus gave his all for us and He wants more than anything to have a relationship with each of us. Matter of fact this month we celebrate Father’s Day and I could not think of a better way to show God how much He means to us than accepting His son Jesus Christ into our lives. Many out there may say that they believe in God and even in Jesus Christ but the question still remains, have you accepted what he did for YOU on the cross? It is put like this in Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (niv) Jesus is the only one who can purify our sins and he did that by the way of the cross and resurrection, but we still have to accept it. God is our heavenly Father who loves each and every one of us so much that He gave His son for our sins. This Father’s day by all means celebrate with your earthly father if you can, but don’t let this opportunity pass you by to celebrate with your heavenly Father by accepting His son. It would be great time to bring your Dads with you to church as we worship God on Sunday and I‘ll save you a seat. Have a Blessed Father’s Day and month of June!

Newsletter - May 2016

Well lets hope that the April showers are gone and we can look forward to the May flowers that God will Bless us with. Church has been good this month with a lot of people that we have not seen in a while coming back around. We had a great concert with “Chronicle” and the church was full, if you did not get to come, you missed a great time and thank you all for the snacks and the generosity that you all showed. We also had a nice problem this month with that being we ran out of adult Sunday school books but we will order more so keep on coming and bring a friend as we study God’s Holy Word and sing Praises in Jesus’ name.
Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • May 8th Mother's Day
  • May 27-29 Youth Vacation Bible School 6th grade and up. Times are 5:30-8:30 on the 27-28 and 9:30am-2pm on the 29th
  • June 20-24 Vacation Bible School for the rest of the school children. All are welcome. 5:30-8:30
Now for the pastor‘s bite: As we look at May, a lot of us look at a couple of things like school getting out and Mother’s Day. With Mother’s Day I think of what Job said as he was giving defense to his friends about why he had fallen on bad times Job 31: 14b What will I answer when called to account? 15 Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers? (niv) see Job knew how precious life was and that we all are formed in our mothers womb by God. Job wanted to treat all human life equal and not even speak badly of it, likewise we would do good to do the same, and realizing how special mothers are in God’s plan. Let me encourage you to tell all the mothers in your life how special they are to God and you and while you are at it make sure they know that Jesus died for them. It would be great if you brought them to church with you on Sunday and I‘ll save you a seat. Have a Blessed May full of flowers!

Newsletter - April 2016

We have been busy around church this past month. The game night did not go as planned but we will try that one again. The children’s Easter celebration was good even though it was cloudy and gloomy, we had 7-10 children and they had plenty of candy to go around. Easter service was great the church was almost full even at 7am. The music was great and the youth did a skit that really told what the true meaning of Easter is all about. I hope you were with us and if not plan to come Sunday and join us as we study God’s Holy Word and sing Praises in Jesus’ name.
Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • April 30 6pm - Southern gospel music concert featuring “Chronicle” love offering will be taken up. Make your plans to attend and bring some friends.
Now for the pastor's bite: As some start April with jokes and pranks with April fools day, I would like to encourage you to share Gods love with a smile. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (niv). Now that is something to smile about for those of us that have put our faith and trust in the Jesus who died and rose again. Now this verse will explain why your neighbors, friends, and even family will think that coming to church is foolish, but it does not have to be that way if we are willing to bring the story of Jesus to them and it becomes real in their life. So while some are joking around and I do like to laugh and joke, be sure to tell them about why you are able to have a smile on your face. That would be that Jesus is in your life as your Savior and not just someone that you have heard about. That story my friend is worth sharing with others, so get out there this month and share it. I‘ll save you a seat on Sunday and bring some one with you. Have a Blessed April!

Chronicle in Concert at Bayou des Glaises Baptist Church - April 30, 2016 at 6:00PM

Come join us on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 6:00 PM for some wonderful gospel music from Chronicle.  From their website:

Chronicle is based out of Holden, Louisiana we formed the group in April 2009 and thank God that we have had the opportunity to sing and minister across the southern United States. Group members are Greg Sullivan, Tim Kinchen and Missy Kinchen. The trio Chronicle will bring great southern and country gospel music along with praise and worship to it's audiences. We use tracks along with saxophone and acoustic guitar. It is such a privilege and honor for us to work with our producer Ricky Atkinson and Resting Place Music. This partnership along with much prayer has allowed the group to attain great success at radio. We all attend local churches in the Livingston Parish area, and all have conservative christian values. We believe that salvation only comes through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We want to thank all who have contributed to the growth and success of Chronicle. Mostly we thank God for opening the doors and providing the means needed, to spread His glorious gospel. Looking forward to ministering at your church or function.

You can check out some of their music at http://chroniclegospelgroup.com/ or by searching for Chronicle Gospel Group on YouTube.

Newsletter - March 2016

Spring is well on the way now that February is behind us and most of us will not even remember that we had an extra day this year. By the way I hope that you did not forget your sweetheart this past month. We have been missing some of you at church and I know that things are getting busy but then again when is it not. I want to encourage you to set some time aside on Sunday mornings for our Lord and Savior as we study His word and praise His name and let someone else know about what is going on around here.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:

  • Mar 12 at 6:30pm Saturday game night for the Grown ups. Come join in and bring a friend as we play some old school board games and have some snacks.
  • Mar 19 10:30am - 12:30 children’s Easter celebration to include an egg hunt and games.
  • Mar 27 7am Easter sunrise service come join us as we celebrate an empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • April 30 6pm Southern gospel music concert featuring “Chronicle” love offering will be taken up. Make your plans to attend and bring some friends.

Now for the pastor‘s bite: This March brings with it the promise of spring as people start planting gardens and crops and also this year Easter. I truly love Easter and one of my favorite Christmas songs is “It’s about the Cross” by Go Fish, and yes I did say Christmas songs. It’s just hard for me to not think of Jesus’ birth without thinking of the cross and the grave. Let me set this up some women went to the tomb on the first day of the week and seeing the stone rolled away thought that Jesus’ body had been taken. As the word spread Mary Magdalene returns to the tomb searching for the body. when this verse takes place John 20 vs.16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).(niv) I feel like a lot of time we are like Mary. In our head we know that Jesus rose from the grave like He said He would, but in our life we live as if someone just moved the body. Do you realize that the same Jesus who rose from the grave is the same Holy Spirit that lives inside you and I if we have accepted His gift and asked for Him to forgive us of our sins. So let’s remember that this Easter and celebrate His resurrection and not just an empty grave. Have a Blessed Easter and come join us on Sundays, I‘ll save you a seat.

Newsletter - February 2016

2016 is counting down with January already gone. How well did you start out the year? Have you read your Bible every day, and was you at church? We had a record number in Sunday school with 30 in attendance and we were missing some of you. Keep up the good effort. We had seven people 4 of them being youth attend the first March for Life Central in Alexandria hope that you will consider attending next year. I hope that you will join us this Sunday as we learn more from God’s Word and by all means bring a friend with you.

Now here is what we can see going in right now:

  • we had a movie night Fri 5 Feb
  • Feb 14 Valentine’s Day

Now for the pastor‘s bite: February is a month that we look at love all around. We consider the love with our spouses, children and grandchildren but what about our love for God? You might say well I can’t give God a box of chocolates and this is true but you can show Him your love in other ways. Jesus tells us in John 14:21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” (NIV) So we see here that buy keeping gods commandments we show him love. Jesus adds a new commandment that we are to love our neighbor as our self, and here lies how we can show God love by showing love to our neighbor. This can be anything done as “simple acts of kindness in Jesus’ name.” let me encourage you to look for ways this month to show God’s love to others and to show God that love through that action. You can also come and join us at church as we worship Him and study His word. I hope you have a Blessed Valentine’s Day and I‘ll save you a seat on Sunday.

Newsletter - January 2016

It’s 2016 now and what all is in store for this year. I hope you was able to join us for the Christmas program but if not it was great. All the children did great and thanks so much for all that helped pull it together. The best part of the program was that it told the real meaning of Christmas “The birth of our Savior Jesus Christ”. We also took up a great offering for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering thank you to all those that gave. I hope that you will start the New Year off with us for Sunday school and worship on Sunday as we learn more from His Word and by all means bring a friend with you.
Now here is what we can see going in right now:
  • Jan 23 The “march for life South” in Baton Rouge.
  • Jan 30 The “march for life Central” in Alexandria the youth are going to this one.
  • Feb 5 Movie night “The Drop Box” 6:30 pm movie starts at 7 pm.
Now for the pastor‘s bite: January 2016 is here and how exciting this is. There is no better time to start reading your Bible everyday. Set a goal of reading through the Bible in a year or maybe 3 years. Look online and you can find plans for both but wouldn’t it be great if next year at this time you could say that you read through the Bible. Another good goal would be to share Jesus with at least one person this year and to invite them or someone else to church. Sometimes we let the past keep us from going forward like “I started read the Bible before but never finished” or “I always get nervous when I talk to others about Jesus or church”. In Isaiah chapter 43 we get some hope for us average people vs. 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.(NIV) This was the Lord speaking and He says that He will make a way and don’t dwell on the past. So let me encourage you to do something new for God this year and if you fall, get up and pick up were you left off. So I hope you have a Blessed New Years and come join us on Sundays, and I‘ll save you a seat.

In Christ’s Love
